make it big. His intellectually challenged brother Mark helps their mother rehearse for shows.
Together, they inhabit a non-traditional household where chaos is the norm, the music is always
on, and Jean's larger-than-life personality takes center stage. When Tim meets and falls for gorgeous
Jill, his home becomes a combat zone as his mother fears this new girl, whose name she refuses to
remember, will "break up" the unique family unit she's tried so hard to keep together. In the midst

of the women of his life without losing himself in the process.

Passes not Accepted!François is a middle-aged antique dealer. He has a stylish apartment and a fabulous life, but at a dinner
with a group he considers his dearest acquaintances, he is blindsided by the revelation that none of
them actually likes him. He's arrogant, self-centered and harsh, and they don't believe he knows the
meaning of friendship. His business partner Catherine makes him a bet: if he can produce his best friend,
she will let him keep the massive Greek vase he acquired that afternoon on the company tab. If not, it's
hers. Having accepted the wager, François naively tears through his address book, trying to shoehorn
an increasingly unlikely series of contacts into the all-important role. Moving through Paris, he keeps
encountering a trivia-spouting, big-hearted cabbie named Bruno. Bruno's chatty, lowbrow ways grate
against François' designer temperament, but he covets the other man's easy way with people. He
convinces Bruno to teach him how to make friends and sets about learning the "Three S" rule: being
sociable, smiling and sincere--although, for him, they don't come easy. Ultimately, François' victory will
depend on Bruno's naiveté in playing along, but what's the cost of cheating at friendship?

Passes not Accepted!SYNOPSIS
Veteran TV director Laurie Lynd‘s latest feature film, the very endearing BREAKFAST WITH SCOT, had its world premiere at the 2007 Toronto International Film Festival®, where it won the hearts of its audiences.Sam (Tom Cavanaugh, ?Ed, Scrubs, GRAY MATTERS) and Ed (Ben Shenkman, JUST LIKE HEAVEN, ANGELS IN AMERICA) aren‘t exactly your stereotypical gay couple. A former pro-hockey player, Sam now works as a broadcaster for a major sports network, and – because of the traditionally homophobic nature of this field – he is determined to keep his personal and professional lives completely separate.
Things change irrevocably when Ed‘s nephew, Scot (fantastically portrayed by Noah Bernett, GOTHIKA) enters their lives. Ed has agreed to look after Scot following the death of the boy‘s mother, at least until his father, Ed‘s no-account brother Billy, returns to Toronto. An expert knitter addicted to boas, makeup and show tunes, Scot has no idea who Wayne Gretzky is – and couldn‘t care less. Terrified that Scot will be persecuted ruthlessly at school, Sam decides to straighten him out. His efforts will change them both.
Thoroughly charming and guaranteed to melt the heart of the coldest audience member, Laurie Lynd‘s BREAKFAST WITH SCOT boasts a raft of fine performances and smart, winning cameos by iconic Canadian actors, including Fiona Reid, Megan Follows, Graham Greene, Sheila McCarthy and Shauna MacDonald. Cavanaugh and Shenkman anchor the story more than admirably, but it‘s the kids who steal the show, most notably Bernett as Scot, whose wide-eyed incomprehension of the ways of the world is both hilarious and deeply affecting.
Perhaps the most essential aspect of the film, though, is its treatment of Sam‘s divided psyche and the sports world in general. In his fear that Scot will be targeted and, frankly, that he‘ll be outed himself, Sam becomes more irritable than your run-of- the-mill homo-phobe. His anxiety is, of course, partially generated by the sports milieu, which traditionally operates on a false and impossibly dated notion of masculinity. The fact that this realm is claimed and zealously guarded by reactionary elements (both the film and the National Hockey League, which has supported it, have been attacked by fundamentalist Christian groups) only makes the film more significant. BREAKFAST WITH SCOT is loaded with charm, but it also reminds us that our world isn‘t yet as liberal or safe as we might like to believe. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

Passes not Accepted! The coming-of-age story of a precocious and outspoken young Iranian girl that begins during
the Islamic Revolution. We meet nine-year-old Marjane when the fundamentalists first take
power--forcing the veil on women and imprisoning thousands. The story then follows her as she
cleverly outsmarts the "social guardians" and discovers punk, ABBA and Iron Maiden, while
living with the terror of government persecution and the Iran/Iraq war. Then Marjane's journey
moves on to Austria where, as a teenager, her parents send her to school in fear for her safety
and, she has to combat being equated with the religious fundamentalism and extremism she fled
her country to escape. Marjane eventually gains acceptance in Europe, but finds herself alone
and horribly homesick, and returns to Iran to be with her family, though it means putting on the
veil and living in a tyrannical society. After a difficult period of adjustment, she enters art school
and marries, continuing to speak out against the hypocrisy she witnesses. At age twenty-four,
she realizes that while she is deeply Iranian, she cannot live in Iran. She then makes the
heartbreaking decision to leave her homeland for France, optimistic about her future, shaped
indelibly by her past.
